Here's a client-server app that provides a group of users a simple way to keep in touch what each of the group members is doing. One machine acts as the "Campfire Server" and each machine on the net is a "Campfire Client." The package is implemented in Frontier scripts, using networked Apple Events. Campfire works with either Frontier or Frontier Runtime as the server or client. Runtime is available as a shareware package. Full source code for the scripts is included, so it can easily be customized or extended using Frontier.
Once it's installed, to change your status, double-click on the checkIn script. It asks what you're doing. Enter a short description like "out to lunch" or "do not disturb."
To view other people's status, click on the browser script. Using the Next and Previous buttons you can find out what everyone else is up to. When you're done, click on OK.
How to Install

There are two folders in this package, one for clients and one for the server.
1. On the server machine: Launch Frontier Runtime or Frontier, and double-click on the traps.inou desktop script in the Server folder. It installs a set of Apple Event handlers in the object database at system.verbs.traps.inou.
2. On each client machine: Launch Runtime or Frontier, and double-click on the Installer script. A dialog appears asking for the network address of the server program. As shipped it's set up for a copy of Runtime on Dave Winer's PowerBook. Change this to reflect the network address of the copy of Runtime or Frontier that's running the server scripts installed in step 1.
